BlueSphere Bio was founded to deploy its novel TCXpress™ technology to unlock the potential of personalized T cell therapy for the treatment of cancer by harnessing the unique specificity of each patient’s T cells for the molecular fingerprint of each patient’s cancer.

Our trailblazing, proprietary TCXpress platform is an elegant, rapid approach that exploits the patient’s immune defenses to attack their cancer specifically and is designed to leave normal tissues untouched, thereby reducing harmful side effects.

The TCXpress™ platform and its implementation will allow us to deliver rapid, personalized T cell treatments for various cancer indications.

This is an exciting opportunity for a Senior Research Director to join our group to develop novel therapeutics in the field of TCR-based Adoptive T cell therapies (ACTs).

Bluesphere Bio is seeking a leader with a proven track record in Immunology, either from Academia or Industry, to support our program in adoptive T cell therapy in the context of allogeneic blood and marrow transplantation therapeutic area (TCX101) and to develop novel cell therapeutics. The leader would be responsible for discovering and preclinical development of TCR-T therapies for hematological cancers utilizing BSB’s proprietary technologies. The Senior Director will manage a group of Scientific Project Leaders and Associates currently working on TCR discovery, lead optimization, genome editing, and T cell engineering. The Senior Director would be responsible for close collaboration with several cross-functional teams and key stakeholders to advance our therapeutic candidate leads to our clinical development group. The Senior Director would also help develop our clinical application and monitoring strategy and our product development and clinical development groups. The establishment of milestones while maintaining budgetary targets is expected. The leader will serve as a mentor and support the career development of the existing team and attract new talent, continuing BSB’s highly innovative environment.

The Senior Director will formulate BSB’s overall strategy, including contributing to our solid tumor adoptive cell therapy program, being responsible for advancing and expanding our current portfolio, managing external collaborations and partnerships, and being accountable for timelines deliverables. The Senior Director position reports to the SVP, R&D and is in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead research and development of BSB’s blood and marrow transplant therapeutic area (TA).
  • Establish a robust portfolio of novel TCRs, capitalizing on BSB’s patented TCXpress™ platform technology for TCR-based cell therapy discovery.
  • Utilize broad technical expertise in T cell immunology, molecular biology, and cell pharmacology to advance candidate T cell therapies to clinical development.
  • Further develop and enhance BSB’s position by filing for patents and establishing new technologies.
  • Participate in formulating the overall BSB internal program strategy and lead/assist with external partnerships and collaborations with Academia and Industry.
  • Support technology transfer to clinical development.
  • Develop and implement a hiring plan to achieve the TA’s goals.
  • Clearly communicate, present, and defend critical TA activities to upper management for successful program progression.
  • Define critical path activities to complete essential projects required to meet key corporate objectives in a timely fashion.
  • Manage and mentor current and future TA scientists.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Work Experience

  • Ph.D. in Immunology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or related field with ten (10) years of postgraduate experience.
  • In-depth knowledge of T cell biology, cellular immunology, tumor immunology with a strong publication record and robust technical experience in the field of T cell immunology.
  • Previous experience in Academia/ Industry with successful leadership of teams developing new therapies or technology applications as demonstrated either by publications, patents, or advancement of programs to the clinic.
  • Demonstrated experience with T cell culture and expansion, lenti/retroviral production, in vitro cytotoxicity and other functional T cell assays, flow cytometry with knowledge of molecular biology for the discovery and characterization of candidate T cell products.
  • Experience with viral and/or non-viral methods of gene delivery is preferred.
  • Knowledge of Molecular Diagnostic and Bioinformatics.
  • Excellent verbal and writing skills.
  • 6+ years of management experience leading groups to specified goals and objectives.
