Our trailblazing, proprietary TCXpress platform is an elegant, rapid approach that exploits the patient’s immune defenses to attack their cancer specifically and is designed to leave normal tissues untouched, thereby reducing harmful side effects.

The TCXpress platform and its implementation will deliver rapid, personalized T-cell treatments for various cancer indications.

Purpose

This is an exciting opportunity for a Laboratory Manager to join our group to assist in developing novel therapeutics in the field of TCR-based Adoptive T cell therapies (ACTs).

The Laboratory Manager will manage daily laboratory support operations and plans the most efficient procedures.  Participates with a team of professionals to provide strategic guidance and ensures all support activities are carried on safely, efficiently, and effectively.  This includes cleaning the lab space, submitting order requests for supplies, keeping an up-to-date inventory, organizing the lab space, maintaining equipment as needed, using proper chemical hygiene, and being the laboratory safety officer.  The Laboratory Manager position reports to the Chief Scientific Officer and is located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Coordinate operations of Discovery and Product Development laboratories
  • Ensure that the laboratory meets all applicable safety and fire requirements.
  • Implement, maintain, document, and develop an effective quality assurance/quality control program; meet reporting schedules and standards.
  • Collaborating with laboratory staff, writing, updating, and maintaining the laboratory policy and procedure manuals.
  • Assist with developing training materials for new employee orientation and safety education session(s).
  • Lead, conduct, and manage operational training and safety programs for all laboratory staff (new and current employees) to ensure standard operating procedures are met or exceeded.
  • Coordinate with Purchasing for functions including but not limited to procurement of essential stock items; receiving, inventory, storage, and maintenance of supplies, labware, and instruments necessary to laboratory operations
  • Ensure the operational efficiency and accuracy of laboratory equipment; arrange for the repair of equipment.
  • Organize and coordinate purchase planning and procurement of laboratory equipment.
  • Guide department members regarding suppliers and emerging trends in lab supplies and resources
  • Work proactively and creatively to solve problems related to laboratory operations
  • Stay up-to-date with best practices in lab management, and share information about state-of-the-art lab operations with other members of the department
  • Lead the implementation and ensure the usage of a Laboratory Information Management System and electronic notebook
  • Moderate physical activity, including unloading inventory
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications and Work Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in medical technology, basic science, or related field.
  • At least four years of post-graduate professional technical experience in a research environment
  • Previous experience as a Research Assistant and/or Research Associate in a research environment.
  • Business or management skills, courses, or degrees are desirable.
  • Proficient management, organization, and analytical skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Proficiency in the use of computers, including MS Office
  • Previous experience with online ordering and Laboratory Inventory Management Systems preferred
  • Experience with SharePoint and setting up electronic lab notebooks is a plus.
  • The candidate will work with low levels of solvents and hazardous chemicals.
